AT WHAT LEVEL ARE THE LANDSCAPE, FOLLOW ON LANDSCAPE AND LANDSCAPE & DIGITAL IMAGING COURSES BASED?

HOW LONG AND HOW DIFFICULT ARE THE WALKS?

Landscape courses

The main purpose of the course is photography, not fell walking or hill climbing. However, having said that, walking will be involved to get to the most picturesque locations and the maximum distance involved would be up to 4 miles. The difficulty of the walks all depends on the aspirations of the group and the weather. Walking boots and weather proofs are a must to bring!

Follow On Landscape courses

These course are for the more adventurous photographer, and we will be taking you slightly off the beaten track, to enable us to catch more creative shots. You must be capable of walking approximately 10 - 12 kms in a day, and at some points the walk may be require a good level of fitness.

HOW MANY GUESTS ARE ON EACH COURSE AND HOW MANY TUTORS?

Landscape or Landscape/Digital Imaging
Again, putting our dedicated and personalised training philospohy into place, we take a maximum of 7/8 on the above courses, with 2 tutors. If we have less than 5 in a group, there is a need then for only one tutor.

Follow On Landscape
On these courses based away from the Peak District Photography Centre, we take a maximum of 9 guest with 2 tutors. Please note that on all these courses, there is a 1 day Follow On Photoshop course immediately afterwards where you will have the opportunity to process up in Photoshop the images that you have taken.

I AM REALLY KEEN ON GETTING TO GRIPS WITH THE DIGITAL SIDE - HOW MANY SHARE A WORKSTATION?

Each guest has their own workstation as we feel that 'hands on' experience is the best way to learn. We do not believe that sharing workstations like many other courses offer is the right approach on ANY course! We have 9 workstations plus digital projector facilities in our digital suite. We also have Elements and Photoshop CS2 on every machine.

MY PARTNER WANTS TO COME ALONG BUT IS NOT A PHOTOGRAPHER AND WISHES TO PURSUE HIS/HER HOBBY DURING THE DAY. ARE THEY WELCOME?

They are most certainly welcome; all they need to do is pay the accommodation fee and you can both join the rest of the group for evening dinners if you wish. Being based in the beautiful Peak District National Park, there are plenty of stunning sites to see and activities to keep them amused during the day.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

On the Landscape / Landscape and Digital Imaging courses it is advisable to bring your own digital SLR and at least a wide angle lens as well as your camera manual, spare battery (fully charged) sturdy walking boots, warm clothing, weatherproofs and your own images for dicussion (not essential).
We loan out our Manfrotto tripods on all courses and we can also loan a digital SLR camera if required (please notify us if this is the case).

Follow On Landscape - It is essential to bring your own digital SLR camera with angle and telephoto lens, sturdy tripod, fully charged spare batery, sturdy walking boots, sunhat and sun cream (if in summer),midge repellant, waterproof jacket, waterbottle as well as warm clothing (just in case). Please remember to bring extra layers of clothing as it can be quite cold and windy on the hill tops. It would be preferable if you bring along a polariser. You might also like to have some neutral density graduated filters but these are not essential.

WHAT EXACTLY IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

The prices for all 2, 3 and 4 day Landscape based courses include all tuition from our various tutors (2 tutors on hand with groups greater than 5 and above on all Landscape and Digital Imaging courses), transport throughout the Peak District, a print of your work, accommodation and breakfast and lunch. Exclusions are evening meal, alcoholic drinks.

The daily rate for those more local (without accommodation) includes all of the above apart from the accommodation and breakfast.

WHAT TIME DO WE ARRIVE ON THE FIRST DAY?

Landscape courses
We aim to start the course at 9am for all Landscape based courses. Coffee/tea and biscuits will be served on arrival. Many of our guests arrive the night before as they may be travelling some distance.

Follow On Landscape
If arriving on the day please be at the Millstone Inn at Hathersage by 8.45am. If staying the night, please ensure that you are outside and waiting before 9am at the Millstone Inn.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO COME FOR LANDSCAPE BASED COURSES?

Everyone has their own favourite season, and it really depends on what you like and what suits you. We run courses throughout the year but can emphasise:

Spring - this is such a refreshing time to be in the Peak District National Park. So far this year, we have had beautiful blue skies, clean sharp air and snowdrops and daffodils dotting the countryside. Newly born lambs and calves can be seen everywhere and is such a tender sight.

Summer - generally warm and green and great to be outside from morning to dusk!

Autumn - perhaps the most photogenic of all seasons. The moorlands turn russet and the landscape is bursting with colour. You can’t help but gasp at the beauty of the surrounding countryside. It’s also a great time to photograph the heather.

Winter - we are regularly subjected to snow flurries that coat all the surrounding mountains and hills. Occasionally, heavier snowfalls transform the countryside into a magical landscape. We are rarely snowed in, however.

WHY CHOOSE THE PEAK DISTRICT PHOTOGRAPHY CENTRE?

What other training centre can you attend that has gained approval for their courses from the British Institute of Professional Photographers, as well as Skillset (the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries).
We know of no other course out there that offers 2 tutors with groups greater than 5 in number; this means you will receive more personalised tuition. We also have a comfortable 15 seater minibus allowing lots of space and room whilst travelling from location to location.
Our tutors are professional landscape photographers with published books behind them. We understand that in group situations some photographers may be unwilling to ask questions, due to shyness. Our philosophy to teaching is being proactive and our tutors will rally round you ensuring you are understanding every step of the course. However at some points throughout the day, we will allow you freedom to venture out and develop your own creativity.
